Many quotes are motivational and inspirational. On the surface, they do look inspirational. But, it does not take much thinking to find that they do not make sense.

So here are a few “motivational” quotes that do not make sense:

“Shoot for the moon; even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

Last I checked, stars are much farther away than the moon. It should be:

“Shoot for the moon; even if you miss, you will float in the eternal darkness of space.”

“Don’t Judge a Book by its cover.”

Then how the hell am I supposed to decide which book to read? Also, judging a book by its cover is a survival instinct. Also, then why do authors spend so much on making book covers?

“It takes more muscles to frown than to smile.”

Well, it also takes more muscles to work than sleep, so we should all sleep then. Also, negative emotions are part of life. To deny your negative emotions is to deny reality, and you become even more unhappy when you deny reality.

“Live every day like it’s your last.”

I mean, have you ever heard of planning for the future? The main reason why people work so hard is to have a better future. It would be an apocalypse if people lived like it was their last day.

“There is only one You(<Insert name here>).”

Yeah, sure, but there is only one of everybody.

So to quote the movie, The Incredibles, when Mrs Incredible says to Dash, “Everyone is special, Dash.” Dash says, “…which is another way of saying no one is.

I am not being overly pessimistic. My point is not that these quotes are not motivational or inspirational. Well, they are.

The main point is that just because something seems inspirational does not mean it is correct or even applicable in the real world because, as you can see, the ones I mentioned above don’t.
