Have you ever felt like life doesn’t make sense? Like there’s no purpose to what you’re doing or why you’re here?

It’s a familiar feeling, especially when we’re going through tough times or facing difficult challenges. But here’s the thing: meaning isn’t something you find. It’s something you create. That might sound a little strange at first. After all, we’re often taught that meaning is something external, something we must discover or uncover.

But the truth is meaning is subjective.

It’s something we assign to our experiences, actions, and lives.

Think of it like a story. You follow a character on their journey when you read a book or watch a movie. Along the way, they face obstacles, make choices, and grow. But without context or a narrative to tie everything together, it’s just a bunch of random events. It’s the story that gives it all meaning.

In the same way, you can create a story for your own life. You get to decide what your journey looks like, what obstacles you’ll face, and what kind of person you want to become. And when you do that, suddenly everything falls into place — the struggles and challenges you face become part of your story and your growth and development.

Of course, that’s easier said than done. It’s not like you can snap your fingers and have a fully-formed life story. But the good news is, you don’t have to. You can start small with simple actions and choices that build over time.

It could be something as simple as taking a walk every day or trying out a new hobby. Maybe it’s setting a goal for yourself, like running a 5K or learning a new language. Whatever it is, make it something important to you that resonates with your values and a sense of purpose.

As you take these small steps, you’ll see patterns emerge. You’ll notice what you enjoy, what challenges you, and what you can achieve. And as you build on those experiences, you’ll create a narrative for your life that makes sense to you.

Now, that’s not to say that life will suddenly become easy or that you’ll never struggle again. But when you have a sense of purpose and a story you’re actively writing, it becomes easier to weather those storms. You know that they’re part of your journey and that they’re leading you somewhere.

So, the next time you feel like life doesn’t make sense, remember this: you can create meaning. Your story is yours to write; it can be as epic and meaningful as you want it to be. It’s all up to you.
